Writing Rant — 3

Another question in the application is asking me to write about my writing goals. This is a very interesting question. I don’t know what my writing goals are. I find it hilarious that I emphasize setting goals at the beginning of everything but I didn’t follow what I say. But in my defense, I find writing something pleasurable and I’m very new to it. I was just trying different flavors and so I didn’t set any goals yet. (I love ice cream btw. I’m having some right now.) Anyways, this application question is really making me reflect on what my goals are for writing. I’m just going to brainstorm here, I guess.

Reasons I like to write (in no particular order):

1) I believe literature is something that needs to be slowly savored and appreciated. I do this. I want to try my hand at creating it.

2) Helps me be more creative (my world is filled with a million rules, all of them meant to suppress my thoughts and individuality).

3) Gets me away from my own world (cliche, I know, but it’s true).

Areas I need to improve in (in no particular order):

1) Writing in general (why am I so frickin bad at it????)

2) Developing characters.

3) Descriptions

4) Transitions (from one point to another)

Potential goals (INPO):

1) Write every day for 15~ minutes

2) Write from the thoughts of a character every day.

3) Develop a full-fledged character that I can write about easily.

4) Develop my writing style (which is non-existent right now).

5) Get through NaNoWriMo 2022 without breaking down.

Welp. Brainstorm done. I can’t talk about small, personal writing goals on the app — I need to give them the long-term picture. #5 it is then. I’ll probably also mention the points that I need to improve in and talk about how I plan to do that.
